If Your Doors Open Anyone Might Wonder In

5 years I spent in Manchester hustling about the damp grays, greens and reds. Thankfully having access to ay car made it easy to run out to the surrounding countryside. With that freedom I took great joy visiting nearby National Trust properties. My favorite of these locations remains Dunham Massey, Altrincham, a huge Georgian House, bang in the middle of a 300 acre deer park (This setting became the subject of my second super8 trial, ‘Dun~Ham Mass~Ay’). The thing that captures my imagination regarding these now open homes, is the Downton Abbey-esque scandals that linger. In actuality by todays standards these incidents aren’t much to write home about; such as George Grey, 7th Earl Of Stamford marrying Catharine Cocks, a circus bareback rider (…’Cocks’ and ‘bareback’ demand attention ofcourse…), it does however provoke consideration of what other terribly shameful happenings went unreported (My mind tiptoes toward thoughts of Sir Henry Rowlinson). Anyhow, contrast to the beautifully polished treasures of the National Trust were my visits to various derelict and industrial locations around the Northwest; for example the Deva Asylum, Chester, closed in 1991, it now stands ruined through neglect and vandalism. There is an instant overwhelming sense of freedom, which screams through ones body in ay building that due to its evacuation of humans seems ruleless. Free from societies-eye the majority of visitors panic and wholeheartedly embrace this anxious immunity that might be snatched away at anytime.  You’ll find chairs embedded in windows, electrics ripped out of walls, burnt out rooms, anything left in the building smashed to fragments, half smeared with feces and vomit, these are the places birds come to die.
The ‘Breechiz Of Nashonal Trust’ series exhibits polished properties inhabited by characters rabid with that sense of lawlessness, which haunts our dilapidated, abandoned buildings. Illustrating primal, eccentric and at times violent souls, detached from what is acceptable and embracing anarchy to varying degrees. These worms wriggle and writhe in humor, discomfort and obscurity.
